The Village Green Project

That's from Howgate to Kirkurd on the A701 and from Silverburn along the A702 to Carlops and all the areas in between.

The Village Green project (formerly Wood and Wool) has won Climate Challenge funding to help us reduce our carbon footprint and we'd like to invite you to get involved.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. Our everyday activities, particularly heating and lighting our homes and driving the car, emit large amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases that contribute to climate change. These issues are particularly complex in our area with older stone houses, no mains gas supply and the shops and amenities all a long distance away. There are lots of things we can do as individuals to reduce our carbon emissions and we hope Village Green can help and encourage us all to act together and do even more. We have lots of great local organisations and outstanding community spirit so we should be able to lead the way in working together to reduce carbon.

Village Green has a team of facilitators and Sally Bowie is our project coordinator. We will be organising events around our area and will be attending our country markets and other local events.

We can offer the following:
  • Home energy audits
  • Advice on improving your energy use and how to access grants
  • A loan service of home energy monitors and publications that give information on a number of green issues.
  • A "draught-busters" visit

All of our activities, events and lots of useful information is on our web site (http://villagegreenproject.org.uk) or you can contact us on 01721 752704 or e-mail s.bowie@btinternet.com for further information or paper copies of our web site information.

This is your project, so please let us know what you think or any ideas you have on activities or information you think would be useful.
